Christmas Classic 5K

For over 25 years now, runners from all around have gathered early in December to take part in one of the longest “running” races in the running calendar, The Christmas Classic and now it’s time for us to announce the 2025 edition.

Historically ran in memory of Kevin Heaney, something which will never change, recent years have sadly seen us lose many more big characters in the running community which has lead us to changing the name of the event to the Christmas Classic Memorial Race.

We want to remember all the friends and loved ones and family members we’ve lost over the years, be it runners or those that supported us as runners, the people who were a huge part in bringing running to Newry and who helped make it the thriving sport it is today.

One thing that hasn’t changed is that as always we support the Evora Hospice and all funds raised on the day will go directly to them.

All we ask is a minimum donation of £5 to take part. This is a non chipped, no frills 5k race. All abilities are welcome and as we use a handicap system, literally anybody could win the Kevin Heaney Cup.

We extend this invitation out to everyone, whether you’re in a running club or not. All are welcome. Let it be a big celebration of the lives of some very special people to us.

The race takes place on Sunday December 7th at 10am sharp with registration on the morning from 9am at the Enterprise Centre at the WIN industrial estate. It’s an out and back on the towpath route so nice and flat. Please come along and support it and be part of the history of this fine race in memory of some wonderful people and all for a brilliant cause.

Thank you.
