Embark on a Journey of Fitness and Friendship

Running has long been celebrated as one of the most effective forms of exercise, offering a plethora of physical and mental health benefits. Joining a running club amplifies these benefits by adding a social dimension that can motivate, inspire, and build lasting friendships. Whether you are a seasoned runner or a novice lacing up your running shoes for the first time, Newry City Runners offers a supportive community where you can thrive.

The Benefits of Joining a Running Club
Physical Health
Running is renowned for its cardiovascular benefits. Regular participation in running can help you maintain a healthy weight, improve your heart health, and enhance your overall fitness levels. By joining a running club, you commit to a routine that can lead to significant health improvements, including increased stamina, stronger muscles, and better endurance.

Mental Health
The mental health benefits of running are equally profound. Running releases endorphins, often referred to as "runner's high," which act as natural mood lifters. Moreover, running can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. A running club provides an additional layer of emotional support as you share your journey with like-minded individuals who understand the highs and lows of running.

Social Connections
One of the standout benefits of joining a running club is the opportunity to forge new friendships. Running clubs often host social events, group runs, and team-building activities that foster a sense of camaraderie. The shared experience of achieving personal and collective goals strengthens bonds and creates a supportive network.

Motivation and Accountability
Consistency is key to reaping the benefits of running, and Newry City Runners will help you stay committed. The sense of accountability to your fellow runners and the club's scheduled activities can motivate you to show up even on days when your enthusiasm wanes. This collective commitment ensures that you stay on track with your fitness goals.

We are pleased to announce that going forward from Thursday 16th January 2025 our Thursday group runs will take place from The Quays, Newry.
Meeting at 7pm in the centre of the shopping centre, we’ll then all warm up jog together down to the Greenbank where we’ll begin our session.
Those doing London, Manchester and Belfast marathons will be beginning their tempo miles.
Eva will be devising an introduction to tempo session for anyone interested in giving it a go and as usual anyone who just wants to do a few gentle miles are also more than welcome to join us.
Afterwards we all cool down jog back to the Quays where now we have the added bonus of running to Sainsbury’s or a coffee outlet to quickly restock our sugar levels.
NB. Parking will be validated for all attendees of our group run if unable to park on the canal side of the shopping centre.
