Maiden of the Mournes 10k & 5k Events at Narrow Water Estate
TRAVERS IS KING OF THE CASTLE
Don Travers showed his form is not dipping after winning the inaugural 10k Maiden of Mournes Event at Narrow Water Estate, sponsored by Mourne Fitness and organised by 26 Extreme. The 10k loop consisted of two laps of a 5k circuit around the Narrow Water and at the halfway point Travers was tucked in second place behind David O’Flaherty waiting to pounce on the second lap. At the end of the second lap there was less than one minute between the first three finishers with Don Travers in first, Mourne Runners Eddie Hanna in second followed by David O’Flaherty in third. The first lady home was Catroina McGrath. In the 5k race it was Andy McKee who was the first male home and the first lady home was Annemarie Kane from Mourne Fitness.
With an entry of almost 200 participants in the event, for whom many it was their first experience of running off road, it was a fantastic success and congratulations must go to each and every runner who competed in the event. A huge well done must go to the Newry Fire fighters who not only ran in the event, but ran the entire 10k in their uniforms. The race is firmly fixed on the 26 Extreme events calendar and hopefully all the runners will be back next year to race around the grounds of the Castle once again.
26 Extreme would like to thank the Marcus and Lisa Hall for allowing them to stage the event at this prestigious location, Mourne Fitness for sponsoring the event, the marshals from the Maiden of the Mournes Festival and the locals who turned out in force at Narrow Water Castle to watch the event and cheer on the competitors.
