Excellent performances for Newry City Runners in London, Vienna, Armagh and Rostrevor

London marathon

13 Newry City Runners were London bound this weekend to take part in one of the 6 world marathon majors and many excellent performances were recorded in tough conditions. Micheal Dillon added to his sub 3 hour marathons of 2016 with a fantastic finish of 2:58:04 and was closely followed by Damian Mulholland also finishing in sub 3 with 2:59:54. Frank McKenna and Gary McArdle produced excellent sub 3:45 performances with 3:43:12 and 3:43:20 respectively. Damien Maguire also recorded a sub 4  hour time finishing in 3:47:34. Fiona Murphy was the first of the NCR females to finish in a fantastic 4:00:25 while Attracta Magennis continued her super return from 2016 injuries with 4:07:38. Collette McCaul, battling injury, finished in 4:11:40, followed by Patricia Byrne who continues to rack up the good marathon performances in 4:15:25. Kate Mulholland, making her return to this distance, finished in 4:21:50, and Gerald Boyle completed his 2nd of the World Majors following Tokyo in February in 4:34:52. Mark Copeland finished with a fantastic PB of 4:41:16 and Neil McMurray returning from injury came home in 4:51:58. Well done to everyone on those fantastic performances.

Miles for Muscles 10k

Newry City Runners were well represented at the annual Miles for Muscles 10k in Kilbroney on Easter Monday. Duddy Parr was first NCR home in a fantastic 43:37, an impressive top 10 finish on a hilly course. Bernard Hamill finished in 46:51, followed by Terry English in 52:29. Mary Quinn, Maureen O’Hare, Joy Morgan, Liz Graham and Lorna Murphy all finished together in 59:30, closely followed by Jackie Gilbey and Andrea McCann in 1:01:09. New NCR member Janine Burns finished well in 1:09:38, as did Karen McElroy.

Mount Pleasant 5k

Well done to Patricia Brown who took part in Mount Pleasant 5k in Dundalk. Patricia continued her recent good form, finishing in 21:33 and winning her age category.

Hill and Dale, Race 2, Tollymore

12 runners travelled to Tollymore for the second race in the Hill and Dale Race series. Duddy Parr was again first NCR member home, finishing in 37:43, followed by Shane O’Callaghan in 43:05 and Stephen O’Neill in 45:14. First NCR female home was once again Liz Graham in 49:15.

NIMRA Fallows Race

NCR played host to the NIMRA Fallows Race in Kilbroney, a tough 10-mile mountain race with 3 members taking part. Stephen O’Neill followed his great performance at Hill and Dale to be first NCR home in 1:49:11, followed by Aaron Montgomery in 1:56:47. Liz Graham, again following a great performance at Hill and Dale was the only NCR female to take part and completed it in 2:08:01.


Roisin Rocks continued her excellent form by finishing 2nd female at Dundalk Parkrun, and obtaining a new 5k PB of 21:06.

Vienna marathon

Well done to Conor McCracken who completed Vienna Marathon in 4:58:32.

Run Armagh

The 3rd race in the Novosco 10k series took place in Armagh. Pat Rocks was first NCR home in 44:45, winning his age category. Deirdre Kelly was first NCR female home with a new PB of 46:45, followed by Lorna Murphy who also finished with a fantastic new PB of 49:55 and second in her age category and Maureen O’Hare in 49:56 and 3rd in her age category. Damian McCann finished in 52:22, followed by Tracey Ruane in 54:54 and Jennifer McAteer in 1:08:52.

Evelyn Marsh took on the 5k, a very hilly course, finishing in a fantastic PB of 26:56.
